He trained as a cabinetmaker at Parnham College in the U.K. (1985-1987) and later received a Master in Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art in London (1988-1990). He established Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design (KGID) in 1991. Through his firm, he has worked on furniture, products and lighting for some of the leading companies in the design field. Many of his products have received international awards (including a Compasso d′Oro in 2001) and are a part of permanent collections in museums (MoMA/New York, Centre Georges Pompidou/Paris) worldwide. The Royal Society for the Arts appointed Grcic “Royal Designer for Industry” and Design Miami hasawarded him “Designer of the Year” for 2010. Konstantin Grcic defines function in human terms, combining formal rigor with considerable mental acuity and humor. Each of his products is characterized by careful research into the history of design and architecture and his passion for technology and materials. Known for pared-down pieces, Grcic is often called a minimalist but the designer himself prefers to speak of simplicity and clean lines.
